Alexander Bozhkov

Alexander Bozhkov's career as a jewelry artist began in Sofia, Bulgaria.  During Communism, Alexander was a well respected conservator responsible for the restoration of the Thracian Treasures collection – ancient metal work from the 5th and 4th century that includes the world’s oldest gold.  When Alexander was offered a high level position at the Institute of the Monuments of Culture it came with a catch. Before the job became official, he was “invited” to become a Communist party member. It was an invitation he declined. Shortly afterward, he lost his job as a conservator and was left without an income. He started making jewelry to survive. Twenty years later, his jewelry has sold in galleries in Sofia, Berlin, London, and Los Angeles.

Working primarily in Sterling silver, Alexander’s jewelry is a unique mixture of influences. Elements of ancient Thracian metal work combined with modern art and nature define his style.  In addition to his jewelry artistry, Alexander continues to work in the restoration world. He also makes props for films, theater production and Opera companies all over the world.
