Aaron Kramer

If something is thrown away, where does it go in a closed loop planet? Artist Aaron Kramer believes there shouldn’t be such a thing as away or waste. His philosophy for creating sustainable art, while embracing discarded objects for inspiration, is embodied in his motto: “trash is the failure of imagination”. The following is a peek into the mind of this full time artist, and part time alchemist.

A self-described "tinkerer", he blends his inventor mind with his knowledge of mechanics to create automata that tickle the soul. Found objects are mechanized into whimsical kinetic machines. With the turn of a handle the clack and clatter of the parts spring to life, illuminating a whole new narrative.

Aaron Kramer received a BFA in Visual Communications from Northern Illinois University in 1985. After working as a graphic designer in Chicago, he spent over a year traveling 11,500 miles around the perimeter of the USA on a bicycle while creating collages from found objects. That launched a career that has included participating in contemporary craft shows, gallery and museum exhibitions and private commissions. Aaron divides his time between his wife, children, and his studio, where he is always creating while finding new ways to weave trash into treasure.
