Richard Patterson has been creating wood furniture for over thirty years. His methods are difficult and time consuming. Each chair seat is handcarved. His joinery is created without nails utilyzing dowel, mortise and tenon, butterfly joints, or other hand constructed wood joinery. Each Patterson piece is uniquely and specifically his own. He pays homage to the masters George Nakashima and Sam Maloof and their influence is often subtly evident. He is a master craftsman whose work is modern, contemporary and timeless. Few living craftpeople can match the level of artistry and craftsmanship achieved by Richard Patterson.

Patterson develops major pieces via a three stage process. First the work is produced in plywood. It is all about geometry and algebra, with strings defining angles and relationships. Once a level of perfection is achieved, a prototype is produced. The client and Patterson view the prototype on site, work out adjustments, and the work is produced.

Slab furniture can be custom ordered. Richard Patterson will send a photograph of the intended slab, and once approved by the client, the work is produced.
